I'm Melissa, the Washington DC-based wedding and portrait photographer behind Lissa Ryan Photography, and I'm a wanderer and adventure seeker at heart. I search out experiences that make my heart beat faster and my adrenaline get going - from traveling the world to wiping tears as I photograph an emotional father - daughter dance. Travel is my passion, and I'm lucky enough to be married to a wonderful man who shares that passion - so far, we've been to 40 countries and counting! Together we live in the heart of Washington, DC with our doberman pinschers, Seb and Zozo, and our rescue cat, Ruthie (all of whom make frequent appearances in my insta-stories!). The energy of the city keeps life exciting, and it's wonderful to always be within an hour's distance from one of the three local international airports, for when the urge to explore new places becomes too strong to resist!
I aim to capture each of these moments with an artistic and editorial eye, creating beautiful portraits and stunning candids that will tell your story for generations to come.
After getting both my undergraduate and law degree from Georgetown University (Hoya Saxa!), I quickly realized that my soul craved a more creative outlet than law, and knew that I had found my path with wedding and portrait photography. I love that my job allows me to document the very best moments in peoples' lives, from the excitement of your engagement, to the joyful tears as you say "I do", to the unimaginable joy of welcoming your children into your home. These are the moments that matter. The ones that deserve to be remembered long after they've passed, and the ones I feel so incredibly lucky to preserve through timeless imagery.
